UNDERFLOOR HEATING INSTALLATION
Working alongside underfloor heating (UFH) manufacturers, we provide a well designed, energy-efficient system that will enhance your home or business.
ADDED WARMTH AND COMFORT
Underfloor heating is a form of radiant heating. It’s a simple, energy-efficient means of warming your home, and can be used in conjunction with – or as an alternative to – radiators. Installing underfloor heating is more expensive that installing radiators but can help reduce your energy bills long-term.
Why choose SDB to install your underfloor heating?
We work in conjunction with the manufacturers to provide a well designed heating system that will work for you. Moreover, we’ll also assess the layout of your home or business to determine the type of underfloor heating system you need and if you need it to work in harmony with radiators or as a self sufficient arrangement. Needless to say, our engineers are fully qualified and fully au fait with all things UFH.
Before you decide whether to install underfloor heating in your home or business, there are a few things to consider. So, here’s our at-a-glance guide to the pros and cons of UFH that you may not have thought about…
Advantages of underfloor heating
- It’s more energy efficient. Whether you install a water-based system or an electric system, the heat is radiant, meaning that it’s distributed more consistently at far lower temperatures than those needed for radiators.
- It can potentially reduce your energy bills (anywhere from 15% to 50%)
- It can be installed beneath a variety of surfaces, including tiles, wood, stone and even carpet as long as it’s not too thick (above 1.5 tog).
- It’s easy to run and has virtually no maintenance costs.
- It eradicates cold spots. Because the entire floor – and, therefore, room – is heated evenly. Radiators heat the air nearest to them first.
- It saves space. As a result, you’ll gain the wall space that a radiator would have occupied.
- It reduces dust AND dust mites (by up to 80% as it impairs the environment in which they flourish).
- It’s ultimately more comfortable. Being able to walk barefoot around your property regardless of the season is an attractive, more luxurious prospect.
Disadvantages of underfloor heating
- It’s usually more expensive to install initially. Water-based systems more so than electric ones. And in older buildings more so than newer ones.
- It takes longer than radiators to reach the desired temperature.
- It’s more difficult than radiators to change or modify once installed.
- It’s not always suitable for very heavy items of furniture.
Worth remembering
You don’t have to install underfloor heating throughout your property. Hence, you may wish to install it in the rooms that would benefit from it the most.
If you have a particularly large room – for example an open plan arrangement – you may even decide to combine an underfloor heating system with radiators.
Installation costs vary depending on the type of system you want to install (water or electric). Furthermore, you may need to adjust floor levels depending on the construction of your property.
