Our plumbing and heating services cover everything from a single radiator installation to an entire heating system upgrade. And every valve and thermostat in between. Domestically and commercially.
HOW SDB CAN HELP
Maybe you’re looking for a central heating upgrade to accommodate a new boiler installation. Perhaps you want to take full control of your heating system with a smart thermostat and control temperatures via your phone. Or maybe your radiators just aren’t getting hot enough. Whatever your heating needs, we can help.
We’ll discuss with you a convenient time for one of our gas safe engineers to visit your property. We’ll assess the issues and give an honest opinion of what you need. Then we’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote.

Our domestic plumbing and heating services
Whether you’re thinking of an entirely new heating system or simply fitting a few thermostatic radiator valves throughout your property, SDB is here to help and advise. We want to make sure you have the heating solution that’s right for your home. A heating system that operates seamlessly in the background without you having to worry about it. And one that provides you with a warm home and hot water on demand.
Perhaps you’d like to install a new boiler and incorporate a series of radiators. Maybe you’re looking for an altogether more eco friendly, energy efficient system. In that case, you might consider solar panels, or an air source heat pump combined with underfloor heating.
If you’re a landlord – particularly if you’re the landlord of a house in multiple occupation (HMO) – you may require a more powerful system. Typically, one that will cater for three or more showers working simultaneously. Hence, you may need an unvented cylinder.
We specialise in plumbing and heating services. So whatever you have in mind, we’ll help you realise your vision.
Our commercial plumbing and heating services
Everything that we cater for domestically is also covered in our commercial plumbing and heating services. Additionally, we also provide much more powerful systems to ensure your business functions at its full potential.
SDB can also design and install bespoke heating systems that are tailored to meet the needs of your organisation. As a business owner, you’ll have a million and one things to think about. So we’ll make sure your staff are warm while you take care of more pressing concerns.
We make it our business to take care of yours.
What is a thermostatic radiator valve?
A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) allows you to adjust the amount of water that flows into your radiator and, therefore, lets you control the temperature of the room. A TRV will give you more flexibility and enable varying temperatures in your rooms.
For example, you will probably want your lounge or bedroom to reach a higher temperature than your hallway. A TRV will certainly help you achieve this. Hence, having a TRV on several radiators throughout your property makes for a much more energy efficient and economic heating system.
A thermostatic radiator valve is a self-regulating device, which consists of two main parts – the valve head and the valve body. A capsule in the valve head expands or contracts as the temperature in your room changes. And this causes a pin in the valve body to pull in or push out – opening or closing the valve.
If your room becomes too warm, the pin pulls in and the valve closes. Consequently, the flow of hot water into the radiator slows. Similarly, if your room becomes too cold, the pin pushes out, and hot water flows back into the radiator.
If you’re considering a smart thermostat, it wouldn’t be a good idea to have a thermostatic radiator valve in the same room as your smart thermostat as the two would conflict with each other. Furthermore, it’s never a good idea to install a TRV in your bathroom because of the great variations in temperature produced when you have a bath or shower. The TRV is likely to shut off completely.
